What does it take?

We’ve mapped out our journey on how we’re going to achieve full operational systems automation by 2029 through a series of projects and missions.

Attitude, like the astronauts, a lot of our success at Waste Connections comes from our attitude. Understanding that it takes some guts and hard work to get things done is just the way it is. We have a chip on our shoulder, and its good.

The decentralized business model is a wonderful ever evolving spirit of Waste Connections. It defines our business process and our aim to be better than our competitors. It’s that spirit that drives us. It truly is a Moonshot.

How are we doing this?

The nucleus of this project is our operational systems. Like the inner workings of a space rocket, Waste Connections operating systems need to communicate seamlessly and in tune with one another. Customer facing websites, hauling systems, in vehicle systems, disposal systems, container tracking, reporting, finance and accounting systems all exchange information with one another in a customized business rule driven procedure. Baseline software platforms will be established to allow us to grow as technology grows. With the aid of machine learning we can predict and adapt as the market changes. We are customizing our operational systems to fit our decentralized business through technology.

System Architecture and Framework

Create a central secure reporting data lake house in the cloud for all applications. Begin with RMO and scale to other collections and post collections systems. Then move to all systems - safety, Workday, truck telemetric, Toolbox, Interject Stats, etc. This will encompass all application systems at Waste Connections. Bind data where applicable and aggregate KPI's across all systems in real time. Size and scale is limitless.
